I have to admit that majority of my wish lists this year consists about 60-75% of books! I would be embarrassed, but honestly, I cannot help myself. Here are my most wished for books this year:
FOR THE HOMEMAKER IN ME:
The Bread Lover's Bread Machine Cookbook by Beth Hensperger: I LOVE to bake, and my latest desire is to become a master bread baker. Emeril's bread machine is also on my wishlist...
FOR THE THRILL-SEEKER IN ME:
The Diviners by Libba Bray: I am in a dark place in my reading right now, preferring murder mysteries and the like. I am not exactly sure why, but that's me. After hearing about this book at a YA conference earlier this year, I cannot stop thinking about this book. I hear the audiobook is equally creepy...
A Game of Thrones by Geroge R.R. Martin: Lords and Ladies. Battles and War. My kind of thing...
The Devil in the City by Erik Larsen: Chicago + World Fair + Mystery Murder = one amazing tale I am sure to enjoy.
FOR THE TEACHER IN ME:
Notice and Note: Strategies for Close Reading by Kylene Beers and Robert E. Probst: I love learning. I really do. I am always in search for the latest and greatest in teaching strategies, and this recent publication promises some unique ways to get students engaged in reading complex texts. Can't wait.
Igniting a Passion for Reading by Steven Layne: Similarly, I am always on the lookout for ways in which I can make reading more relevant for my struggling readers. This book is jam packed of classroom strategies and activities to make reading more enjoyable for those that hate it most.
FOR THE ANIMAL LOVER IN ME:
The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate: Who can resist a story about a gorilla and a baby elephant? Seriously...
Modoc: The True Story of the Greatest Elephant that Ever Lived by Ralph Helfer: Due to my extreme obsession with elephants, I am so fascinated by any stories written about the elephant-human bond.
FOR THE KID IN ME:
Wonder by R.J. Palacio: I hear such awesome things about this book, that most YA reviewers recommend that adults read it as well. A story about bullying and friendship - great lessons to learn and be reminded of at any age.
Liar and Spy by Rebecca Stead: This book brings back memories from my childhood when my friends and I used to think it was us against the world, forming secret clubs and going on missions.
There you have it! What books are you asking Santa for this year?!
