To be quite honest, there are so many currently published YA books that I am so eager to get to, it was very difficult to even begin thinking about pre-releases that I can't wait for.. So I did what any normal, albeit slightly bibliophilic, girl would do - I visited my trusty Amazon Wish List to see what titles I was favoring and anticipating.
What I found is slightly embarrassing...
Majority of the books I am currently wishing for (on each and every little star) are not even in print yet. Well, this made my WoW work
1. Cracked by K.M. Walton (Dec 4, 2012)
A teen takes a bottle of pills and lands in the psych ward with the bully who drove him to attempt suicide in this gripping novel.
Victor hates his life. He has no friends, gets beaten up at school, and his parents are always criticizing him. Tired of feeling miserable, Victor takes a bottle of his mother’s sleeping pills—only to wake up in the hospital.Bull is angry, and takes all of his rage out on Victor. That makes him feel better, at least a little. But it doesn’t stop Bull’s grandfather from getting drunk and hitting him. So Bull tries to defend himself with a loaded gun. When Victor and Bull end up as roommates in the same psych ward, there’s no way to escape each other or their problems. Which means things are going to get worse—much worse—before they get better. -from Amazon.com
I am not sure why, but I love reading about drugs and mental disorders. I find these taboo topics so fascinating, and I applaud authors who have the courage to tackle such complex narrations. Perhaps it is the unpredictable nature of drugs and of the brain which allows writers (and readers) to be surprised and creative. Things are not as they seem, and the worlds are so different in terms of expectations and "rules". Without question, Walton's new novel has been grabbing my attention. I love how there is an element of bullying awareness and almost revenge. Looking forward to reading this one!
